Remember Chandni Bar? That was one of those movies which made my head ache. Completely aware of the fact that what I am watching is a work of fiction, I couldnt help but feel for poor Tabu. The end of movie left my mind swirming with myriad thoughts and a very bad mood. Matrubhoomi belongs to that genre of movies. You cant help but feel for poor Tulip Joshi, who by the way does a fantabulous job as the only female. The female foeticide issue forms the basis of the story, only that it is a bit exaggerated in this case. A bunch of villages is left with no females at all and the men go desperate to the hilt. The nightmarish plot of the movie would peacefully qualify as a horror story, giving RGV's
Darna Zaroori Hai a run for its money. If you havent seen the movie as yet, its high time you put this in your to-do list.
In retrospect, I think the word "exaggerated" used above has been wrongly put there. Somehow, the movie left me with a feeling of deja-vu. Now I know why. There was a special report on NDTV 24*7 some two months back which was flashing a similar story. A village in Punjab that ran out of females of nubile age. So pathetic was the sex ratio in the areas nearby that the males in this region had to pay some sort of dowry for the few eligible girls present in the area while the others were forced to find tribal partners in regions as far as Assam.
Life comes full circle..true!!
